July is challenging for most tearooms. Other restaurants see their greatest traffic spike in the summer while tearooms see their surge in the winter months. Why? Tea is still associated with cold, winter, rain and seems comforting then. So although we serve Iced Tea, Lemonade, Tea Ice Creams, lighter fare, great desserts – it takes a while for customers to automatically consider a tearoom as their first choice. Image lags. Add to this, that summer brings so much choice in activities. By the time you slot in barbecues, vacations, chores, gardening and all the outdoor activities you stash away for the summer, the day is gone. Dining is an evening event and most tearooms are closed by then.
To counter this trend, we’re running Specials throughout July this summer. Jacque’s made one of her wonderful ice creams for this coming weekend – Coffee Almond - which should go beautifully with our savory selection – a crispy bread filled with buffalo mozzarella, tomatoes and black olives.
